Senior Associate

Nicholas is a senior associate in the Derivatives & Structured Products Group.

He works with private equity, private credit and infrastructure fund managers on the construction and implementation of hedging strategies to mitigate interest rate, foreign exchange and commodities exposures including advising on fund structuring to ensure optimal regulatory treatment, ISDA negotiations, collateral arrangements (including mandatory regulatory collateral as well as commercial collateral arrangements) and EMIR / UK EMIR compliance. Nicholas also assists managers with interest rate hedging required in connection with GP facilities, sub-lines, NAV facilities and on asset level hedging arrangements, such as facility linked interest rate caps / swaps and deal contingent forwards. He also has experience of advising fund managers on the legal aspects of securities financing transactions and the SFTR requirements for offering documents, and the underlying GMRAs and GMSLAs required to implement repo and stock lending transactions and other alternate sources of leverage, such as total return swaps. 

Nicholas also works with pension scheme trustees on investment matters (including bilateral and agency trading documentation, investment management agreements for fiduciary and/or segregated mandates and triennial valuations) and with both trustees and insurers on pensions endgame transactions such as buy-ins / buy-outs. He also has experience of advising corporates and portfolio companies advising on their use of derivatives including establishing both secured and unsecured lines to hedge FX, rates and commodities exposures.

Nicholas joined Nomura International PLC for a six-month client secondment in 2019, where he worked as part of the Transaction Legal Global Markets team.
