Jan-Jaap advises on a wide range of complex commercial disputes and has been a partner in the Dispute Resolution team at Travers Smith for over a decade.
His expertise includes:
- preventative risk counselling, litigation, arbitration, investigations, alternative dispute resolution;
- for clients in a range of business sectors including banking and finance, asset management, professional services and technology;
- corporate and financial transactions (including shareholder disputes), derivatives and structured products, civil fraud, professional negligence, competition claims, private international law.
Previous and current matters include some of the most significant cases in the London litigation market: acting for Hewlett-Packard group companies in their US$4 billion fraud claims against former executives of Autonomy; representing Sebastian Holdings in its multi-billion dollar claim against Deutsche Bank arising from a series of exotic derivatives transactions; and advising Lehman Brothers entities in disputes arising out of the collapse of the bank, including (at his previous firm) acting for the joint administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) in litigation over the ownership of securities worth more than US$1.5 billion.
Jan-Jaap's experience encompasses a secondment to a leading international bank. He is a member of the Litigation Committee of the City of London Law Society and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He sat on the firm's Brexit Working Group.
