UK employers with employees working in the EU, EEA or Switzerland need to prepare for changes that will be made to cross-border social security rules at the end of the transition period. From 1 January 2021, if no agreement on social security is reached with the EU or individual member states, the existing rules on social security co-ordination will cease to apply with the risk that double charges could arise. Employers need to assess their EU workforce to consider the impact of the changes and any steps they should take to deal with them.

"Controlled products" generally refers to items with potential military/security applications (and includes certain types of software and many items commonly used for civilian purposes). At present, many of these items can be exported to the EU largely free of controls, but from 1 January 2021, new requirements may apply, including the need for export licences.
