Travers Smith launches "Be a Game Changer" diversity and inclusion initiative

Overview

In further developing its commitment to diversity and inclusion, Travers Smith LLP is launching a new initiative under the heading “Be a game changer”.

Coinciding with the Olympic year, which marked major successes for the GB Olympic and Paralympic teams in Rio, Travers Smith’s “Be a game changer” initiative is designed to harness the power of sport to help build high performing and collaborative teams and create a diverse and inclusive workplace.

The “Be a game changer” initiative will be launched at an event hosted by Travers Smith on the evening of 19 October in the company of leading Paralympians and para-athletes to celebrate ability beyond disability. The firm’s guests including Lord Chris Holmes, one of Britain's greatest Paralympians, Richard Allcroft, Board Director of the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, and London 2012 Paralympian Claire Harvey will be sharing their unique experiences of sport, inclusion and disability and discussing how we can enable people to reach their talent potential.

Over the coming year, Travers Smith will be tapping into the unique experiences of athletes and other people working in sport, to help accelerate progress and leverage the power of inclusivity. Its ambitious programme includes an evening with Nigel Owens, the openly gay rugby referee, to discuss performance, authenticity and sexual orientation, and also an exciting partnership with The Women's Sports Trust to help empower men to champion gender equality. In addition, the firm is currently running a Rainbow Laces campaign, giving all its people the opportunity to 'lace up for equality' and signal their own support for LGBT inclusion including most recently at The Law Society's Rugby 7s tournament.

Travers Smith’s Diversity and Inclusion partner Siân Keall commented:

“Creating a diverse and inclusive culture is a key business priority for Travers Smith. We believe only the highest-performing teams, which maximise the power of different opinions, perspectives and cultural references, will succeed in the marketplace.  Our focus on diversity and inclusiveness is integral to how we serve our clients, develop our people and play a leadership role in the legal and business community. We are, therefore, very excited about launching the “Be a game changer” campaign and hope it will serve as an inspiration to our people and help promote equality and diversity in our workplace and wider society.”
