Travers Smith appoints six new partners

Overview

Travers Smith LLP has announced today the promotion of six lawyers to its partnership, with effect from1 July 2016. The new promotions are in a broad range of practice areas including corporate finance & US securities law, competition, finance, IP / IT, real estate and tax.

The new partners and their principal areas of practice are:

Louisa Chambers – Commercial, IP & Technology

Louisa specialises in IP, technology and data protection. Throughout her career she has advised a wide range of clients in the technology, financial services and retail sectors, in particular. Louisa is currently on maternity leave, but recently advised the Hostelworld group on the technology and data protection aspects of its IPO and Canaccord Genuity on the implementation of a new business-critical software engine.

Stephen Whitfield – Competition

Stephen specialises in EU and UK competition law.  He has particular experience in dealing with antitrust investigations, obtaining UK, EU and international merger clearances, competition litigation, and advising clients on compliance with competition law.  Stephen recently advised Pace plc on the international merger control aspects of its £1.4bn acquisition by ARRIS Group.

Dan McNamee – Corporate Finance & US Securities Law

Dan is a US federal securities law practitioner, focusing on cross-border equity and debt capital markets transactions and related securities regulation. Dan has a long track record of providing US federal securities law advice to private and listed companies, as well as bulge bracket and mid-tier investment banks and other financial institutions and advisers throughout EMEA and CIS. Most recent work includes: advising Maxcyte Inc., a US domestic issuer of Category 3 securities, on its initial public offering and AIM listing in the UK; advising H&F Wings Lux 1 S.à r.l on a substantial secondary block trade of shares in Hostelworld Group plc; and advising Investec Bank plc as placing agent on a substantial secondary block trade of shares in Supergroup plc.

Barry Newman - Finance

Barry is a debt finance specialist and focuses on domestic and cross-border acquisition finance.  He acts for private equity sponsors and their investee companies, banks, alternative lenders and corporate borrowers.  Barry recently advised Bridgepoint on its acquisition of Estera (formerly Appleby Fiduciary Business) and Zoopla Property Group plc on its acquisitions of uSwitch and The Property Software Group.

Paul Kenny – Real Estate

Paul advises on a broad range of real estate transactions, predominantly advising real estate funds, developers, investors and funders on the acquisition, management, financing and disposal of commercial, mixed-use and high value residential assets, with particular expertise in healthcare, renewable energy and infrastructure assets. Paul has recently advised Benson Elliott Capital Partners on its disposal of a mixed-use scheme in Milton Keynes and Patron Capital on the acquisition and disposal of a portfolio of care homes to a US REIT as well as Brookfield Utilities on its infrastructure contracts at Greenwich and King's Cross regeneration schemes. 

Elena Rowlands - Tax

Elena specialises in advising on all tax matters relating to asset management. She has particular expertise relating to the structuring and operation of investment funds including private equity funds, debt funds, infrastructure funds and real estate funds. Her recent roles have included advising the Pensions Infrastructure Platform on the formation of the PiP Multi-Strategy Infrastructure Fund and SV Life Sciences on the formation of the Dementia Discovery Fund.
