Travers Smith LLP has advised Basalt Infrastructure Partners LP on its disposal of its interest in Alkane Energy to Infinis Energy Management Limited, the leading generator of landfill gas in the UK. Infinis Energy Management Limited is owned by 3i Infrastructure plc.
Alkane Energy is an independent power generator from both coal mine methane (CMM) and reserve power operations and is the largest generator from CMM in the UK. As at December 2017, Alkane Energy had 160MW of installed generating capacity operating across 32 sites across the UK. Alkane Energy performs a vital environmental service, extracting methane from abandoned coal mines that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. The acquisition remains conditional upon Oil and Gas Authority approval.
Travers Smith also advised Basalt on its recommended public takeover of Alkane Energy in 2015.
The Travers Smith team was led by Corporate Partner Spencer Summerfield, with support from Corporate Senior Associate Jonathan Walters.
