Travers Smith LLP has advised long-standing client Exponent Private Equity ("Exponent") on the acquisition of The Racing Post, the leading media player in the horseracing and sports betting market in Britain and Ireland, for an undisclosed sum.
The Racing Post provides comprehensive and independent news, race information, analysis and bloodstock data through its eponymous daily newspaper, website and mobile application. The business was founded in 1986 and has become the “bible” for the horseracing industry, with in-depth editorial content covering all major sports.
The Travers Smith team was led by private equity partners Ian Shawyer and Lucie Cawood who were supported by associates Adam Martin, Tom Hartwright and Richard Hornshaw, finance partner Donald Lowe, tax partners Kathleen Russ and Simon Skinner and commercial, IP & technology partner Richard Brown.
Exponent's other advisers included PricewaterhouseCoopers (Corporate Finance and Financial, Tax, Commercial and IT due diligence). The selling shareholders were advised by White & Case (Legal) and Deloitte (Corporate Finance).
