Joe Wren has been appointed as Travers Smith's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Partner. He takes over from Donald Lowe, who has been in the role since 2017, and will work alongside our CSR and Diversity Director, Chris Edwards.
Travers Smith's CSR Programme was established in 2013, with Daniel Gerring as the first CSR partner, and has won many awards and provided much needed support to a wide range of charities and civil society groups. As the firm's CSR partner, Joe will have overall responsibility for the further development and delivery of this Programme.
Joe's role also includes leading the exciting work of our CSR Art Programme, which helps support graduating artists from the University of Westminster and the Royal College of Art with their transition from student life to professional practice, and at the same time provides us with a range of vibrant artworks. In addition, Joe will oversee the firm's wider CSR outreach programme, which involves working with schools and colleges, upskilling young people, and providing aspiring solicitors from less privileged backgrounds with meaningful opportunities to access careers in law.
Joe has been an active participant in the firm's CSR Programme over the years, including sponsoring our involvement with City Solicitors Horizons, a mentoring and work experience scheme aimed at promoting social mobility in City law.
On his appointment, Joe said:
"I am delighted to start my tenure as CSR partner and thoroughly look forward to building on the fantastic work that Donald, and before him Daniel, have done over the years. I am a strong believer in business having an important role to play in broader society, and that Travers Smith's commitment to CSR is a hallmark of the business that we are and the business that we want to be. Our award-winning CSR Programme is a cornerstone of the firm and offers some incredible opportunities for people across the business to develop as professionals, to support our local communities, to help improve access to careers in City law firms, and to develop meaningful partnerships with a broad range of charities."
