Edition 3: Autumn 2024

International Insights

Overview

A note from our Head of International

I am delighted to share with you our latest quarterly International Insights.  This edition is timely as the Travers Smith delegation has recently returned from the annual IBA conference in Mexico City. The conference was well-attended and we were fortunate enough to be able to catch up with many of our good friends from around the world and have the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues including existing and emerging practice areas and the development of technology and AI.

Despite headwinds, many of the colleagues that we spoke to were positive about the future, which is encouraging.  We were also grateful that Travers Smith partners were able to participate in IBA panel sessions covering topical issues including derivatives, unconscious bias and law firm management.  We hope that you enjoy this edition and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

A postcard from...

Japan

In this series, we speak to our inbound and outbound seconded lawyers about their experience working at firms in different jurisdictions.

We dive into the differences in legal work, culture and what they've learnt from working in a new country. In this edition, we speak to Associate Mika Masuda, who has been seconded to our Corporate M&A and ECM team at Travers Smith from Japan.
