The Government is to introduce a new entitlement to up to 12 weeks' neonatal leave and pay for parents of premature babies. No date has yet been given for when this will come into effect.

The Government consulted in 2020 on a new form of unpaid statutory leave, of one week per year, for employees with unpaid caring responsibilities, such as care of an elderly relative. The Government's response to the consultation is awaited.
