ELTIFs and LTAFs: Europe's long-term fund structures

Overview

Private funds managers are increasingly looking to access retail capital, especially the high net worth investors who may feel they are missing out on the returns offered by illiquid strategies. Policymakers, seeing long-term investment as a public good, are keen to re-double their efforts to establish an alternative structure that is appealing to – and appropriate for – retail investors, while making economic sense for the fund managers that want to tap this important source of capital.

The Travers Smith team has been working on a number of mandates for alternative asset managers who are launching European Long-Term Investment Funds (ELTIFs), and we are working with industry associations and regulators as the UK develops its own Long-Term Asset Fund (LTAF) – potentially a powerful way to attract capital from UK defined contribution pension schemes. At our webinar, we will consider how managers can use these European long-term fund structures to attract more retail capital, and we will discuss some of the regulatory and commercial challenges that arise.
