Health & Safety Policy Statement
April 2024

Travers Smith is committed to high standards of health and safety management. The responsibility for establishing and maintaining our policies on health and safety matters lies with the Health and Safety Committee at Travers Smith LLP.
In addition to the firm's commitment, it is essential to acknowledge that we all have a personal responsibility for observing and upholding safety policies, rules, and procedures.
Fostering safety awareness, positive attitudes and encouraging continual improvement in safety performance requires the commitment and active involvement of all Partners, directors, employees, and regular contractors at all levels.
We strive to maintain a safe and healthy work environment by maintaining high standards of health and safety management and wellbeing. We encourage everyone to contribute to their own welfare together with that of their colleagues and others affected by their activities. This includes clients, contractors, and visitors.
Effective health and safety management improves safety performance and reduces work related injuries, near misses, and ill health. Therefore, so far as is reasonably practicable, our aim is to avoid accidents, injuries, and ill health to our people, to prevent damage to property and to monitor our impact on the working environment.
To achieve this, we are committed to the following principles:
- establishing arrangements for the effective organisation, planning, training, monitoring, and reviewing of health and safety policies and procedures.
- the continual improvement and development of the firm's formal management system. This provides a framework for the monitoring, measuring, setting objectives, and auditing our health and safety practices in line with legal compliance and best practice as set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- prioritising the wellbeing of our people to eliminate hazards, reduce occupational health and safety (OH&S) and ensure consultation on matters of health and safety.
- ensuring all our people and contractors working on the firm's behalf are competent to complete their tasks and are provided with adequate training, information, instruction, equipment, and supervision.
- actively communicating with Partners, directors, employees and regular contractors through updates, meetings, and Hub articles.
- fulfilling legal and other requirements relevant to health and safety; and
- encouraging and promoting the use of industry best practices wherever reasonably practicable.
- ensuring health and safety objectives are set annually and that performance is reviewed against these objectives to audit compliance and maintain standards of excellence.
This Health & Safety Policy Statement is reviewed and revised at regular intervals to ensure its effectiveness and seek continuous improvement of our processes. The policy is available for all employees to view on the Health and Safety pages of the firm's intranet, and other external interested parties via Travers Smith LLP website.
In addition, the firm's Management processes, and our aims are reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to improve safety performance and well-being.
Travers Smith LLP will continue to raise and maintain awareness of this Health and Safety Policy Statement through guidelines, internal communications on the intranet and training.
