Innovation in legal design

Overview

We are always looking for innovative ways to give our clients the best service. Read below to find out how completely rethinking the traditional avenues of legal advice led to lasting stability for one of the firm's clients.

The Task

The Travers Smith Commercial, IP & Technology team was asked to pitch to global investment firm Muzinich & Co. in relation to advising on its GDPR compliance in the run-up to the implementation of the new GDPR regulations. The approach was taken to propose a four stage programme, beginning with a full audit and concluding with an implementation plan.

The Solution

Following a full review of our own advice and competitor offerings, we wholly rethought the traditional legal opinion in order to produce a commercial plan more akin to a business-ready document. Through close collaboration between our legal and business development teams, we created a visual representation of the compliance process, presenting a timeline, colour-coded actions, key decision points, and likely impacts.

The Outcome

The end product was a one-page large format document which the client could present to the board without any additional explanation. One year on, the Head of Legal and Muzinich & Co. confirmed that the product continues to be used regularly across the business as a day-to-day compliance guide.
